Sensitive Skin : What to look out for
Do you suffer with sensitive skin ? Well if your skin becomes reddened, itchy or irritated after the use of skin care products, then chances are that you do indeed suffer with sensitive skin. The symptoms of sensitive skin include a tightening or tingling in the skin, dryness of the skin and a rash or blotches appearing on the skin. These reactions can be brought on by stress, shaving, poor diet, washing and drying and they can be excasberated by the use of some skin care products.
If you are a sufferer, the first thing to look at is your skin care routine. If you are using skin care products that do not state clearly that they are for sensitive skin or are hypoallergenic, then do NOT use them.
Check the ingredients of your skin care products. Some of the ingredients to look out for and avoid are alcohol, any chemicals, additives and any other synthetic ingredients. These may all be contributory factors in your condition. Try and look for products which contain organic natural ingredients.
So now you know what you should be using, lets have a look at how you care for your skin. If you wear make-up, you always remove it before you wash your face. Again make sure you are using a make-up remover that will not irritate your sensitive skin. Be sure to avoid ones that contain soap.
Do not wash your face with an abrasive washcloth as this will irritate your skin, also avoid using exfoliating scrubs with granules. Instead find a cleanser containing salicylic acid. This will exfoliate your skin.
Protection from the sun is important for all, but is especially so for those with sensitive skin. Apply a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15. Avoid oil based sunscreens and those containing PARSOL 1789. Instead look for PABA free sunscreens and those containing zinc or titanium oxide.
